Type G is an independent branding and design studio founded by Creative Director Mike Nelson in 2004.

Rooted in Southern California, our work is shaped by decades in design, skate, surf and outdoor culture — and by living the California lifestyle firsthand.

Based in North County San Diego, we work with local businesses and national brands on identity, packaging, websites, campaigns and content — always with the goal of making the work feel clear, original and right for the brand.

WE KEEP IT PERSONAL

Type G is intentionally small.

Mike owns and leads the studio and is directly involved in every project — from the first conversation through creative direction, design, production and final delivery.

Clients work directly with Mike, without layers of account people or handoffs. When a project needs more hands, we bring in trusted photographers, writers, developers, strategists and production partners.

It keeps things personal, flexible and focused.
